Eyam and The Great Plague

Andrew Merrill

When the plage arrived in Eyam, Andrew Merrill went to the edge of Eyam Moor and building a crude hut in which he lived with his pet cockerel. Every morning, Andrew's cockerel would crow and wake Andrew. One morning, Andrew was not awoken by the Cockerel. When he got up he discovered that his cockerel was missing. Andrew went to the the village to try and find his cockerel. Andrew was startled when he discovered his cockerel in the place that it used to roost in the village. Andrew decided that this must mean that tghe plague was over and returned to the village. Sure enough the plague had ended in Eyam.
